Large scale events => Environmental Awareness
The objectives of this phase are to re-define the showcase given the large amount of results already achieved in Large-Scale Events. The showcase focus is re-directed to “Environmental Awareness” using the same demonstrator components. We developed the initial environmental awareness prototypes. In the showcase we continue the aim of supporting active spectatorship focusing on three aspects:
- Individual and Co-experience in spectator groups – spectators constantly work solo and look to each other to express and share experiences through a combination of verbal, embodied, performative, material, and technological means.
- Engagement to the event – Active participant by the people: beyond passive witnessing deeper cognitive and social processing of the event.
- Navigation the space – spectators engage in a variety of activities that emphasize the spatiality of their experience coordinating revising plans with distributed members. They navigate the distributed urban space planning, improvising and executing a route (including exploring, finding, evaluating, negotiating places).
The aim of the showcase is to develop and evaluate applications of mixed reality technologies that support these three aspects. The showcase will assemble Mixed Reality technologies in four different components that complement each other and that by the end of the IPCity project will be developed in an integrated demonstrator including a
- Semi-stationary installation enables collective and collocated use of spectator created media and highlight flows of visitors and event spaces.
- A location aware application on smartphones conveys awareness cues and support collective media creation for distributed members in spectator groups.
The evaluation will determine which of these components are more promising and in which way the mixed reality feature support presence in Environmental Awareness Events or activities.
